Description

5 Tris is a Virtual Triathlon Challenge to complete a Triathlon Series between March 1, 2023 and Octobert 31, 2023.

This is a Challenge Series. You may register to compete in a Sprint, Olympic or Medley series. There are 5-race series and 3-race series to choose from.

Our Mission

  • To create Series style competition for Age-Groupers
  • To create Team competition for Tri Clubs
Triathlon is a sport where age-groupers compete on a race-by-race basis as individuals. Let's make it a little more interesting...
5 Tris platform is to create series style competition for age-groupers to see how they stack up against other age-groupers over the course of an entire triathlon season (instead of single races). And how Tri Clubs stack up against each other - there are over 1000 Tri Clubs in the United States.

Rules

So, here are the RULES, since it's a virtual challenge and all...
  1. You may enter actual live event(s) to count toward any of your 5 Tris.
  2. You may design your own personally designed swim-bike-run course(s) and run it on your own time to count toward any of your 5 Tris. This could potentially be a good opportunity to do a brick workout with your training partners or tri clubs.
  3. T1 and T2 times will be omitted from your finishing time.
    • However, Keep transitions to under 15 minutes - this should give you plenty of time to get your gear (bike etc.) in and out of your vehicle if you are running your own desgned course. Ultimately, omitting transition times gives a physical recovery advantage if abused. So, take only the time you need to transition and get out on the next leg. This is an honor system.
  4. You must enter your times here at https://www.5tris.com. Click on "Results" > "Submit Virtual Results".
  5. Submit times within 72 hours of your race. This is so all the "Type A" people know what they are competing against and know what they might need to do to land on the podium. In a non-virtual race you can physically see your competitors. In a virtual race series, the best we can do is have results posted timely.
  6. If results are not posted within 72 hours, we reserve the right to not include it in your 5 Tris. Not saying we will for sure, but let's create a leaderboard and make it interesting. We will allow postings that occurred prior to registering, so long as it occured between April 1st and October 31st.
  7. You must record your races with a GPS device. Winners' (Yes, there will be winners, age group and overall - with prizes too - see below) times will be validated by a review of races via Strava, Garmin Connect or some form of GPS recording technology.
  8. If you do MORE than 5, we will use your top 5 fastest times. To keep your fastest times, you must edit the times you'd like to remove with your faster time. To edit times, go to https://www.5tris.com and click on "Results" > "Submit Virtual Results" then click on the times you'd like to edit.
    • Note: you will be entering a swim time, a bike time and a run time for each event.  You must replace all 3 if you are entering a new faster time.
  9. The swim may be done in Open Water or a Pool. Sounds a bit weird, but not everyone has access to good open water (if they are designing there own course). Please try and use Open Water where possible.
  10. Sprint distances must be 750 meter (.47 mile) swim, 20 kilometer (12.4 mile) bike, and a 5 kilometer (3.1 mile) run.
  11. Olympic distances must be 1500 meter (.93 mile) swim, 40 kilometer (24.8 mile) bike, and a 10 kilometer (6.2 mile) run.
  12. Half distances must be 1900 meter (1.2 mile) swim, 90 kilometer (56 mile) bike, and a 21.1 kilometer (13.1 mile) run.
  13. If swim, bike or run distances are short due to a live event, we may allow you to extrapolate your pace and add time to the shortened leg(s) of the live event. If it is grossly short from the standard Sprint or Olympic Distance, we will not accept it.
  14. We will not accepts times from personally designed courses that are short. You know your distances, design accordingly.
